Greetings from Dr. Martha Grout:

We changed our name! We wanted to better reflect who we are and what we do. We are constantly sorting through the ever-changing universe of medical possibilities to find what really works, what has practical value. And I am integrating in the Center the best of what we find. We strive to be THE model for complementary and alternative medicine in the Valley.

We have two new additions to our services to tell you about.

First, BrainAdvantage™.

The brain and the body work together, of course! But how often is that overlooked even in alternative medicine?? Working with what is above the neck can “turbo charge” healing efforts directed at the body. BrainAdvantage™ is a simple, economical way to improve brain function. For example:

• The build up of heavy metals in the body often disrupts neural pathways in the brain and depletes the neurotransmitters. Disorganization of thoughts, problems with planning and short-term memory disturbances can continue to be an issue. So we integrate BrainAdvantage™ with heavy metal chelation for superior results.
• Children with AD/HD frequently have very poor blood supply to the frontal lobes. They often do not develop the neural nets necessary to learn the cognitive skills they are required to have in school. Our second new service is offered by our new associate, Sunandra Harrell-Stokes. She is a master of Acutonics® and Kita Sound Healing. Acutonics applies tuning forks to acupuncture and acupressure point combinations, trigger points and the chakras. Acutonics

helps choreograph the body’s energy and that allows other therapies to penetrate more deeply. Kita Sound Healing massages the meridian pathways with specific vibratory frequencies to balance, harmonize, relieve stress, providing an experience of deep peace. Stress is a very significant causative factor in many chronic diseases. Stress can also disturb cognitive processes such as learning and memory.

Our Geranium Experiment:

We’ve seen the studies that show how microwaving food changes the proteins in food for the worse, but what about water? We started an experiment with 2 sets of geranium plants. Our Hypothesis: water boiled in a microwave oven would not sustain life as well as water boiled in an electric teakettle. Here are the “before and after” pictures – plants given microwaved water are on the left:

Not a big difference. Why might that be? Perhaps because we let the water stand for a while and cool down before we poured it on the plants. The radiation thus dispersed. The concern around microwaves centers on the damage done to food which contains proteins and fats; water does not. The other possibility is that the vibrations here at the Center are just so positive, the plants did well despite the microwaved water! Or… maybe microwaving water doesn’t make that much difference. Further experiments would need to be conducted.

New in the Library:

Our website, www.ArizonaAdvancedMedicine.com, is a wealth of health information and we constantly add to it. Check out the new articles in our Library on vaccines, one of the most controversial medical issues of our time. Do vaccines help or hurt; what should you do?

Also check out the new article on Skin Cancer, Sun and Vitamin D – should you really slather on that sunscreen? According to a study published in the June 9 issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine, men with low levels of vitamin D have more than twice the risk of heart attack. Another study this month found that low levels of vitamin D increased the risk of diabetes. And a study released last month linked deficiencies to an increased risk of dying from breast cancer. About 98% of my patients have vitamin D levels which are far below the levels recommended by the Vitamin D council. About 5% have levels below the reference range in lab tests – which are the levels required to prevent rickets.

Regular readers of our website know for example that leading U.S. sugar providers have begun sourcing their sugar from genetically engineered (GE) sugar beets. GE sugar, like GE corn and soy, are found in many conventional food products, so consumers will be exposed to genetically engineered ingredients in just about every non-organic, multiple-ingredient product they purchase. And they probably won’t know it because GE foods are not required to be identified on labels.
